Performing as Maude Boate, Lismore artist Michael Gates took the Sydney drag queen scene by storm in the 1990’s with his unique sculptured polystyrene wigs, inspiring the Academy Award winning movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert. In the Making Maude documentary we meet Michael 20 years after the Priscilla hey-days to find he is still making show-stopping costumes and wigs from the small town that was once too conservative for drag, but has now embraced this queen of polystyrene.
