Anita Schulz was just ten years old when she joined the Hitler Youth movement.
Born in Berlin, Anita’s journey as a young schoolgirl traversing wartorn Europe from 1943 to 1945 is a tale of epic proportions. Along with forty of her classmates and her two teachers, Anita walked hundreds of kilometres, seeking shelter and food in bombed and war-ravaged communities in a bid to get back to Berlin and their families. Anita’s story gives a new perspective on the suffering and terrible toll the Nazi regime had on its own people.
